This was a simple project I built when my children were little, to take advantage of a space under our stairs conveniently shaped like a space capsule. I color-inverted wireframe diagrams of space shuttle instrument panels, printed them on sticker paper, cut panels out of thin project boards, and then mounted them on a piece of plywood cut to fit the stairwell. I then drilled holes and mounted a variety of LEDs linked to switches and potentiometers. The eventual plan was to include more powerful features with a Raspberry Pi, but I got busy. When we moved, we rebuilt everything into a freestanding instrument panel.
